Streptocarpus ionanthus (African Violet)
This plant is an evergreen perennial herb native to Kenya and Tanzania. It forms a low rosette of fleshy, hairy leaves on long stalks, with clusters of flowers held above the foliage. Wild forms have violet-blue flowers. It is popular as a houseplant. New plants can be raised from leaf cuttings, and cultivated forms range from miniatures to large plants with single or double flowers. Photographed in Armenia, Colombia.
