Sterculia apetala

A large deciduous tree native to tropical America, Sterculia apetala develops a broad crown and large palmately lobed leaves. Its flowers lack petals and are formed by a pale yellow-green calyx marked with dark red internally. Dense clusters arise on thick branches before developing into woody follicles.
