Steiractinia helianthoides

A shrub native to Colombia, it grows to about 13 feet tall in the Andes at elevations of roughly 3,300 to 8,200 feet. Its narrow, toothed leaves have silky hairs beneath and prominent veins. Yellow, daisy-like flower heads develop in small clusters at the ends of stems and in the upper leaf axils. Each head has about twelve outer ray flowers surrounding numerous tubular florets. It flowers and fruits throughout the year. Photographed in Florida.
