Stanhopea oculata

An epiphytic orchid native from Mexico through Central America into Colombia, Stanhopea oculata grows in humid forests. Its pendent inflorescences carry large yellow-green flowers heavily marked with maroon spots and blotches. A complex sculptured lip occupies the flower center beneath broad waxy segments. Pleated leaves rise above clustered pseudobulbs. Photographed in Colombia.
