Stanhopea lietzei

An epiphytic orchid native to southeastern Brazil, Stanhopea lietzei grows in humid Atlantic Forest habitats. Pendent flower stalks carry large waxy cream to pale pink blossoms beneath pleated leaves and clustered pseudobulbs. Each flower has broad spreading segments and a sculptured central lip adapted to its specialized floral structure. Photographed in Florida.
