Sparrmannia africana
A small tree indigenous to the open woodlands of South Africa and Madagascar. This species is recognized for its clusters of white flowers, which are distinguished by their red and yellow stamens. One intriguing feature of this species is haptonasty, the rapid movement of its stamens upon touch, an adaptation believed to enhance pollination efficiency. It has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Photographed in Bogotá, Colombia.
