Solanum tuberosum

A tuber-forming perennial domesticated in the Andes, Solanum tuberosum is cultivated worldwide as the potato. Branching green stems carry compound leaves and clusters of white, pink, or violet star-shaped flowers with prominent yellow anthers. Underground stolons enlarge into the edible tubers that distinguish this important cultivated crop. Photographed in Colombia.
