A tuber-forming wild potato native to the central Andes, Solanum pentlandii grows in high-elevation grasslands and rocky slopes. Its violet star-shaped flowers have five pointed lobes surrounding a cone of yellow anthers. Compound leaves are arranged along low branching stems, with underground tubers developing beneath the plant. Photographed in Peru.
