Solanum atropurpureum

A prickly shrub native to South America, Solanum atropurpureum grows in open tropical vegetation and disturbed sites. Its stems, leaf veins, and calyces bear long dark purple prickles. Small white star-shaped flowers have five narrow petals surrounding bright yellow anthers, and rounded green berries follow the blossoms. Photographed in Colombia.
