Siphocampylus (species unidentified)

Native to tropical America, this genus of herbs and shrubs belongs to the Campanulaceae family. Its simple leaves usually grow alternately and have toothed edges. Tubular flowers emerge from the upper leaf axils; colors include red, yellow, green, white and, more rarely, blue. The joined anthers form a tube. Dry seed capsules open at their tips to release numerous seeds. Many mainland species have nectar-rich flowers adapted to pollination by hummingbirds or nectar-feeding bats. Photographed in Colombia.
