Silene subciliata
A perennial herb native to Texas and Louisiana in the United States, it grows in sandy soils in open woodlands and along riverbanks. Its vivid red flowers have five narrow spreading petals above a tubular calyx, with pale stamens and styles projecting from the center. Opposite green leaves occur along slender branching stems. In Texas gardens, its summer and autumn flowers supply nectar for hummingbirds and insect pollinators. Photographed in Florida.
