A perennial herb native to southwestern Europe, Silene subciliata grows on rocky slopes and open mountain habitats. Its vivid red flowers have five narrow spreading petals above a tubular calyx, with pale stamens and styles projecting from the center. Opposite green leaves occur along slender branching stems. Photographed in Florida.
