Silene chalcedonica cluster of brilliant red deeply notched flowers above green leaves

Silene chalcedonica

A clump-forming perennial native from eastern Europe into western Asia, Silene chalcedonica sends upright leafy stems above a basal crown. Dense terminal clusters contain many brilliant red flowers, each divided into deeply notched lobes around projecting stamens. Opposite lance-shaped leaves occur in pairs along the sturdy stems. Photographed in Florida.
