Sida poeppigiana

A tropical American herb or subshrub, Sida poeppigiana grows in open vegetation and disturbed sites. Its yellow flowers have five broad petals marked by a dark maroon ring around the central staminal column. The hairy calyx persists behind the flower, and the leaves have prominent veins with toothed margins. Photographed in Colombia.
