Serissa japonica (Snowrose)

Native to southern China and Taiwan, this evergreen shrub belongs to the coffee family and has small, opposite leaves along slender woody branches. Flowers occur singly or in clusters and have a short, funnel-shaped corolla. The cultivar Flore Pleno is a dwarf form with small, double, rose-like flowers. The species is widely grown as bonsai for its gnarled trunk, small leaves, and frequent flowering. Photographed in Armenia, Colombia.
