Serenoa repens

A clumping palm native to the southeastern United States, this species grows from creeping or partly buried trunks. Stiff fan-shaped leaves are divided into many narrow segments and have petioles armed with sharp teeth. Branched inflorescences emerge among the leaves and carry numerous small cream flowers. Rounded fruits ripen from green through orange to nearly black. Photographed in Florida.
