Senna occidentalis yellow flowers and buds on a reddish stem above pinnate green leaves

Senna occidentalis

An upright herb or short-lived shrub native to the tropical Americas, this species carries pinnate leaves with several pairs of pointed leaflets. Yellow flowers open from the upper leaf axils and have unequal petals surrounding curved dark-tipped stamens. Narrow flattened pods become dark brown as they mature. Research-grade observations document it in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
