Senna hayesiana yellow flower with unequal petals and curved stamens among dark green leaves

Senna hayesiana

A woody tropical American species, this senna bears compound leaves and large yellow flowers with five unequal petals. Several fertile stamens curve forward beneath the petals, giving the blossom an asymmetrical structure typical of the genus. Flowers develop from buds enclosed by overlapping sepals and are followed by legume pods. Research-grade observations document the species in Colombia and Panama. Photographed in Colombia.
