Senecio breviscapus

A low perennial of the high Peruvian Andes, this species forms leafy shoots close to the ground and sends up solitary yellow flower heads. Each head has a broad disk surrounded by numerous narrow ray florets, while overlapping green bracts enclose its base. Its compact habit and leathery foliage are characteristic of plants exposed to cold, wind, and intense sunlight at high elevations. Research-grade observations document it in Peru.
