Scutellaria coccinea

A perennial herb native to the tropical Andes, Scutellaria coccinea grows in humid forest vegetation. Loose clusters carry bright magenta-red tubular flowers with an arched upper lip and spreading lower lip, each emerging from a small green calyx. The opposite leaves are glossy and have coarsely toothed margins. Photographed in Colombia.
