Pink and purple fruits on branching Sciodaphyllum fruit clusters

Sciodaphyllum blepharidophyllum

Native from Panama to Ecuador, this shrub or tree in the aralia family grows in wet tropical forests. It can grow as a hemiepiphyte, beginning life on another tree and later extending roots down to the soil. The leaflet margins bear fine hairs, and the sparsely branched flower clusters end in small rounded heads. It was formerly known as Schefflera blepharidophylla. The identification of this plant is provisional. Photographed in Chocó, Colombia.
