Schultesianthus coriaceus
This plant is a woody shrub native to Colombia, where it can grow on other plants as a hemiepiphyte. Leathery leaves occur along branching stems. Its sweetly fragrant yellow flowers have long funnel-shaped tubes that expand into five broad, ruffled lobes. Brown anthers and a green stigma project from the throat. The persistent calyx remains at the flower base and later surrounds the developing berry. In Colombia, it occurs in Andean vegetation between about 6,200 and 9,200 feet. Its flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and bats. Photographed in Colombia.
