Scadoxus multiflorus

Scadoxus multiflorus is a bulbous perennial native to much of sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Arabia. A leafless stalk carries a spherical flower head composed of many narrow red florets with long projecting stamens. Broad leaves develop from a short pseudostem formed by overlapping leaf bases. The flowers are followed by clusters of rounded red berries. Research-grade observations document it in Colombia, Panama, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
