Sanchezia tigrina

Sanchezia tigrina is a tropical tree native to Peru. Opposite leaves form a leafy crown, and upright terminal inflorescences carry tubular flowers enclosed by overlapping colorful bracts. The floral spikes rise beyond the broad foliage and remain structured as successive buds open. Research-grade observations document the species in Ecuador, Panama, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
