Sanchezia sanmartinensis

A tropical shrub in the acanthus family, Sanchezia sanmartinensis has broad opposite leaves and upright flowering stems. Vivid red bracts overlap densely around the inflorescence, while narrow flowers project between them with slender curved styles. Fine hairs cover the bracts and flower stalks, giving the cluster a textured appearance. Photographed in Florida.
