Salvia pichinchensis

An Andean sage native to Ecuador, Salvia pichinchensis grows in humid mountain vegetation and forest edges. Upright stems carry blue to violet two-lipped flowers in spaced clusters above opposite leaves. The prominent lower flower lip is marked with paler areas, while dark calyces and stalks frame the developing blossoms. Photographed in Colombia.
