Salvia guaranitica

A perennial sage native to southern South America, Salvia guaranitica forms tall clumps with upright branching stems. Large deep blue two-lipped flowers emerge from dark calyces above broad heart-shaped leaves with toothed margins. The flower’s arched upper lip shelters the stamens while the lower lip provides a broad landing surface. Photographed in Colombia.
