Salvia caymanensis

Salvia caymanensis is a small aromatic shrub native to Grand Cayman. Opposite gray-green leaves grow on branching stems, and small blue to violet two-lipped flowers form along upright spikes. The foliage is adapted to strong sunlight, wind, salt exposure, and seasonal dryness. This rare island species occupies open coastal and dry shrubland habitats and requires warmth, excellent drainage, and protection from prolonged waterlogging. Photographed in Florida.
