Russelia equisetiformis (Firecracker Plant)


Native to central Mexico, Mexico Gulf, northeastern Mexico, northwestern Mexico, southeastern Mexico, and southwestern Mexico, this is a shrub in the Plantaginaceae family. Its weeping branches create a mound resembling a fountain. Admired for its year-round blooming in warm climates, it produces profuse small flowers normally in red but also yellow​. It has been recognized with the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. Photographed in Cali, Colombia.
