Ruprechtia costata

Ruprechtia costata is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to the Caribbean and nearby tropical America. Simple leaves grow along slender branches, and the small flowers are followed by clusters of papery winged fruits that change from pale green to reddish brown. The winged structures help the fruits travel on air currents. The species occurs in seasonally dry woodland and coastal vegetation and tolerates heat and periodic drought. Photographed in Florida.
