Ruellia elegans
Ruellia elegans is a perennial herb or low subshrub native to Brazil. Slender branching stems carry opposite leaves and vivid scarlet funnel-shaped flowers with five rounded lobes. Research-grade observations document it in Panama. The corolla is formed from five fused petals, and the narrow basal tube expands abruptly into a nearly flat five-lobed face. Photographed in Colombia.
