Ruellia caroliniensis

A perennial herb native to the southeastern United States, Ruellia caroliniensis grows in woodlands, open forests, and shaded roadsides. Its violet funnel-shaped flowers have five spreading lobes and a pale throat, opening above opposite leaves on softly hairy stems. The elongated fruits develop after the short-lived flowers fade.
