Rubus coriaceus

Rubus coriaceus is an Andean blackberry shrub native from Colombia to Bolivia. Prickly stems support thick leathery leaves and large magenta flowers with many central stamens. The species grows in cool montane vegetation and reaches open high-elevation habitats above 9,800 feet. The fruits are aggregates of many small drupelets, each developing from a separate ovary within a single flower. Photographed in Colombia.
