Rhynchanthera grandiflora
Rhynchanthera grandiflora is a shrub or subshrub native from Mexico through southern tropical America. Its hairy leaves have several prominent lengthwise veins and finely toothed margins. Purple flowers develop in branched clusters at the twig tips. Each flower has five fertile stamens, with one much longer than the other four. It grows in wet roadside hollows, grasslands, stream margins and savannas. Photographed in Colombia.
