Rhus copallinum

Rhus copallinum is a deciduous shrub or small tree native to eastern North America. Its compound leaves have distinctive winged central stalks and turn red in autumn. Dense clusters of small pale flowers appear near branch tips and develop into upright groups of reddish, hairy fruits. The species spreads by underground shoots and grows well in sunny, dry, or disturbed sites. Photographed in Florida.
