Restrepia brachypus


A small epiphytic orchid native to the Andes of northwestern South America, Restrepia brachypus grows in cool humid mountain forests. Individual flowers arise near the leaf bases and display long threadlike lateral sepals above a fused, spotted lower sepal. Their intricate purple and cream patterning is characteristic of the genus. Photographed in Colombia.
