Renealmia alpinia
Renealmia alpinia is a rhizomatous perennial herb native from Mexico through tropical South America. Tall leafy shoots resemble those of other ginger relatives, while separate low inflorescences emerge near the ground. Overlapping red bracts surround yellow tubular flowers and later dark fruits. The species grows primarily in wet tropical forest. Research-grade observations document it in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
