A tree native to a wide region that includes Florida, the Caribbean islands, and extends from Mexico through Central and South America to Colombia. This plant have been used medicinally, often made into teas for easing indigestion and reducing fevers. Scientific studies have also identified the presence of compounds like β-sitosterol and palmitic acid in the leaves, which contribute to its moderate anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant activities.
