Quiabentia zehntneri
Quiabentia zehntneri is a succulent shrub or small tree native to seasonally dry northeastern Brazil. Thick green stems bear fleshy oval leaves and paired spines at the nodes. Pink flowers have many broad petals surrounding a dense center of pale stamens. The species belongs to the cactus family despite its persistent leaves and is adapted to heat, drought, bright sun, and rapidly draining soil. Photographed in Florida.
