Puya mirabilis

A perennial terrestrial bromeliad native to Bolivia and northwestern Argentina, it grows on rocky slopes. Its narrow, pointed leaves have coarse spines along the edges, while their thick bases form a bulb-like structure above ground. The upright flowering stalk rises well above the foliage and carries a loose, unbranched cluster of yellow-green flowers. Each flower has long, strap-shaped petals that twist after flowering.
