Punica granatum (Pomegranate)


Native to Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, North Caucasus, Pakistan, and Tadzhikistan and nearby regions, this is a tree in the Lythraceae family. It is a drought-tolerant, fruit-bearing deciduous tree with many cultivars. Widely cultivated with India and China taking the lead. Photographed in the Valley of Cauca, Colombia.
