Psilotum nudum

Psilotum nudum is a primitive-looking vascular plant with a broad tropical and subtropical distribution. Green, repeatedly forked stems perform most of the plant’s photosynthesis because true leaves are absent. Small yellow spore-bearing structures develop directly along the stems. It grows terrestrially or as an epiphyte in warm rocky or wooded habitats. Research-grade observations document it in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
