Pseudophoenix sargentii

Pseudophoenix sargentii is a solitary palm native to southern Florida, the Caribbean, Mexico, Belize, and northern Central America. A smooth ringed trunk supports a crown of pinnate leaves. Branched inflorescences emerge below the crown and carry numerous small cream flowers, later developing rounded red fruits. The species is adapted to exposed coastal habitats, limestone soils, salt spray, and seasonal drought. Photographed in Florida.
