Pseudobombax palmeri

Pseudobombax palmeri is a deciduous tree native to western Mexico. Its thickened trunk and branches hold palmately divided leaves during the growing season. Large flowers appear on mostly bare branches and carry many long white stamens surrounded by narrow brownish petals that curve backward. The species is adapted to seasonally dry tropical woodland and requires warmth, strong light, and freely draining soil. Photographed in Florida.
