A perennial shrub native to Fiji, it belongs to the Acanthaceae family. Its spreading, bushy stems carry oval to elliptical green leaves. Flowers range from pinkish blue to purplish pink and form simple or branching spikes. Each flower has a slender cylindrical tube opening into five spreading, overlapping lobes, giving the corolla a star-like shape. The species grows in wet tropical environments and is cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. Photographed in Barranquilla, Colombia.
