Portulaca pilosa


Portulaca pilosa is a low succulent herb native across tropical and subtropical parts of the Americas. Narrow fleshy leaves cluster on spreading stems, often with conspicuous white hairs in the leaf axils. Bright magenta flowers open in strong sunlight and display numerous yellow stamens. The species favors exposed sandy or rocky ground. Research-grade observations document it in Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, and Peru. Photographed in Colombia.
