Pitcairnia megasepala

A terrestrial bromeliad native from Costa Rica and Panama into Colombia, Pitcairnia megasepala grows in humid forests and mountain vegetation. It produces a tall, slender, branching inflorescence above a basal rosette of narrow leaves. The flowers and prominent sepals are greenish yellow, and small red floral parts provide a contrasting accent along the branches. Photographed in Colombia.
