Pitcairnia commixta

A perennial bromeliad native to northern South America, Pitcairnia commixta is recorded from Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela in humid tropical and montane habitats. Its dense inflorescence carries numerous red flowers whose long narrow petals and sepals curve outward in different directions. Older floral parts darken and twist among newly opened scarlet blooms.
