Pitcairnia barrigae vivid orange tubular flowers emerging from dark upright bracts

Pitcairnia barrigae

Pitcairnia barrigae is a terrestrial bromeliad native to Ecuador. Narrow leaves arise from a basal rosette, while an upright flower stalk bears vivid orange-red tubular flowers with projecting yellow anthers. Unlike tank-forming bromeliads, many Pitcairnia species grow from the ground or rocky slopes. Research-grade observations document this species in Ecuador. Photographed in Colombia.
