Native mainly to the Neotropics, Pitcairnia is a bromeliad genus notable for its mostly terrestrial growth, tufted narrow leaves that may have spiny or finely toothed margins, and showy flowers with long, narrow petals; in some species, the flowering stalks or blooms arch or hang. Photographed in southern Colombia.
